1000 Ashapalli, was founded by Ashabhil, the leader and king of Bhil.

1069 Karna Solanki, the father of King Siddharaj Jaysinh, captured the city and renamed it as Karnavati.

1100 Karnavati, great trade centre situated as it was on the trade highway between the capital of patan and ports of Cambay, Broach & Gogha.

1150 Seat of famous Jain Scholars, Kalikalsarvajnya Shree Hemchandracharya and others.

1297 Hindu King Karan Waghela was defeated by Allaudin Khilji.

1396 Mozaffar Shah ascended the throne of Patan.

1410 Ahmed Shah the grandson of Mozaffar Shah ascended the throne of Patan.

1411 Ahmed Shah laid the foundation of Ahmedabad : Manek Buraj, Ganesh Bari, Bhadra Fort, Muhrat Pol and Jumma Masjid.

1423 Construction of Jumma Masjid completed.

1441 Death of Sheikh Ahmedshah Khatu and the construction of Sarkhej Roja begun.

1451 Houj-e-Kutub or Kankaria Lake constructed.

1453 Dariakhan Tomb and Dome constructed.

1475 Death of Shah-E-Alam Saheb and Shah Alam Roja begun.

1485 Dada Hari-ni-vav constructed.

1486 Mehmud Begda started construction of city walls.

1495 Adalaj-ni-vav constructed.

1541 Rani Sipri Masjid constructed; Arrival of Barbosa, a spanish traveller.

1535 Humanyun captured and ruled the city for nine months; Bahadurshah recaptured.

1555 Arrival of Udadbir, Arab Historian.

1556 Ghangizkhan Rumi killed in Bhadra by Jujaharkhan after ruling for two years.

1560 Siddi Saiyad masjid constructed.

1572 Akbar captured the city. End of the sultanate reign.

1586 Meeting of Saint Dadu and Akbar; Akbar recaptured the city from Muzaffarshah -III.

1617 Arrival of English Ambassador sir Thomas Row.

1618 Arrival of Jehangir, political relations with the British establised with letters written to King James, Shah-E-Jehan appointed Suba of Gujarat.

1619 First Dutch factory started.

1621 Construction of Shahibaug Palace and the garden.

1629 Year of Great famine.

1633 Kinkhab Shamiana bestowed to Shah-e-Jehan.

1636 Serai in Bhadra citadel was constructed by Suba Azamkhan.

1638 Arrival of Mandelsso. First communal riot.

1650 Drought and scarcity.

1708 Invasion and loot by Balaji Vishwanath.

1714 Hindu-Muslim riot, disastrous floods.

1715 Forward business stopped; year of depression.

1718 Scarcity and Inflation.

1725 Invasion by Marathas.

1731 Arrival of Bajiroa Peshwa.

1733 Library of Rasulabad looted.

1738 City came under joint jurisdiction of Amin-Khan and Kamaji Gaikwad.

1739 Disastrous floods in the city.

1744 Death of Gujarati Poet Shamal Bhatt

1747 Year of scarcity and famine.

1753 Ahmedabad came under Maratha rule.

1755 Extraordinarily heavy rains.

1757 Division of the city between Gaikwad and Peshwa.

1758 Maratha currency.

1771 Pestilence.

1780 Gen. Goddard took over the city and handed it over to Fatehsinh Rao Gaikwad.

1781 Arrival of James Forbes.

1804 Arrival of Swami Sahajanandji, Swami Narayan Sect.

1808 Arrival of Gaikwad, Enforcement of Property Inheritance Law, stone laid at Teen Darwaja.

1818 Union Jack hoisted at Bhadra Fort.

1819 Earth Quake. Speculation in Opium.

1820 First import of foreign cloth.

1821 Earthquake for 30 seconds.

1824 First city survey by Britishers.

1827 First Gujarati School started.

1832 City walls reparied by citizens committee, First seeds of local self govt.

1834 Begining of city Committee for Municipal work.

1846 Construction of Hutheesing Temple . Gujarat Vernacular Society founded by Alexander Forbes and Kavi Dalpatram.

1849 Clock was set in Bhadra Fort. First Guj. weekly 'Ahmedabad Vartman' started.

1850 Construction of Swaminarayan Temple .

1851 First Girls School started.

1857 Municipality came into existence. Gujarat Training college started.

1858 First library 'Himbhai Institute' started.

1861 First Textile Mill started by Mr. Ranchodlal Chotalal.

1864 Starting of Ahmedabad-Bombay Railway.

1868 Heavy Floods. Street lamps came besides lime-stone roads.

1870 Opening of Ellisbridge. City municipality recognized by statute.

1875 Railway bridge and Ellisbridge were damaged by heavy floods.

1877 Fires in Sarangpur, Zaverwad and Maganbhai-ni-Haveli.

1880 Gujarat club establised. Calico Mills was started.

1890 The Czar of Russia came to Ahmedabad. First underground drainage was laid in Khadia.

1891 Water Supply by pipelines from the persian wells in the river bed.

1897 Opening ceremony of Gujarat college.

1899 Death of Kavi Dalpatram.

1902 Indian National Congress Session was held in Ahmedabad.

1905 First Gujarati Literary Conference, presided by Govardhanram Tripathi.

1913 First Baronetcy conferred to Chinubahi Madhavlal.

1915 Arrival of Mahatma Gandhi. First flash of Electric lights.

1916 Provincial political conference held, presided by Jinnah; Satyagraha Ashram established.

1917 R. C. Technical Institute came under Govt. control.

1918 Ahmedabad Labour Strike.

1919 Majur Mahajan Sangh established.

1920 Sixth Gujarati Literary Conferece held, presided by Hargovinddas Kantawala. Arrival of Rabindranath Tagore.

1921 Gujarat Vidhyapith founded. Indian National Congress session presided by C. R. Das. Non-cooperation movement. Municipality superseded.

1924 Elected Municipality resumed working; First Natinalist presided Sardar Patel.

1929 Arrival of Pattrick Geddes. Opening of L.A.Shah Law College .

1930 Dandi March and Salt Satyagraha.

1934 Centenary year of Ahmedabad Municipality . Jyoti Sangh establised.

1935 Gujarat Kala Sangh and Gandharva Sangeet Mahavidyalaya started.

1936 Ahmedabad Education Society founded.

1937 H.L.College of Commerce started.

1939 Opening of Sardar Bridge .

1940 Opening of Gandhi Bridge .

1941 Communal Riots.

1942 Historic Textile Strike. Municipality superseded. Quit India Movement.

1943 Introduction of rationing.

1944 Cloth control.

1946 Second Communal riots. Many Muslim families migrated to Pakistan .

1947 Tricolour Flag on Fort of Bhadra. AMTS came under municipal control. L.M.College of Pharmacy started.

1948 Famine in Ahmedabad district. Immersion of Gandhiji's ashes in Sabarmati.

1949 Rigid cloth control; Textile crisis; Ahmedabad Municipal Acts; All India Radio, Ahmedabad station started. Gujarat Chamber of commerce established.

1950 Municipality raised to the status of corporation. Gujarat Univsersity started functioning. PRL Established.

1951 L.D.Engineering College started.

1952 First General and Corporation Elections.

1954 ATIRA Laboratory started.

1955 New Civil Hospital opened. Milk Scheme in Ahmedabad. Drainage in Ellisbridge Area.

1956 First women's college started. Arrival of Le Corbusier and opening of the Museum Sanskar Kendra; Intiation of Maha Gujarat Movement.

1957 Second General Elections and Corporation elections. Sardar park laid.

1958 Riots and agitation.

1960 Maha Gujarat Bandh; Nehru Bridge openend.

1961 Ahmedabad became capital of New State of Gujarat. Lalit Kala Academy Establised.

1962 NID, IIM, School of Architecture, Indology, Darpan Academy started.

1963 Arrival of Louis Khan. Third Corporation elections.

1968 First Multistoreyed Building - Bahumali Bhavan. ISRO, SAC established.

1969 Communal Riots.

1970 Capital shifted to Gandhinagar.

1971 Fourth Civic Elections of corporation.

1972 School of Planning started. Dive-in Cinema started.

1973 Death of Vikram Sarabhi, Heavy floods in river Sabarmati.

1974 Students Agitation of Navnirman.

1975 Subhash Bridge opened.

1976 AUDA establised. Premabhia Hall completed.

1978 Arrival of Bucknister Fuller.

1979 Arrival of Prof. J. Salk.

1980 Arrival of Arthur Clark.

1981 Corporation Elections. Vasna Barrage Scheme realised. Anti reservation agitation of Medical students.
