About Teach India

Teach India is a nation-building initiative (or social initiative) of The Times of India that brings together children in need of ducation and people who can contribute a little time towards teaching them. It is based on one simple principle: If you have the desire to teach, then TOI will put you in touch with underprivileged children who are willing to learn. With over sixty of India's committed NGOs, corporates, schools and social organizations already supporting the cause, selfless individuals are ncouraged to come forward and give just a few hours a week to Teach India.

CEE's Approach

As CEE partners the Teach India campaign, we see another great opportunity which calls for urgent civil participation. We combine this campaign with “Hands for Change - action towards sustainability”. Learning that makes us aware and responsive to our home, neighbourhood and the city. CEE and its sister institutions would use the approach of “Joyful learning” to get children to actively participate in civic issues within immediate vicinity. The twelve week programme would weave in ten thematic areas. We are identifying around 250 learning groups comprising underprivileged children around the city, with two volunteers assigned to each learning group for twelve weeks. A brief on the programme and approach will be shared with the group of about 500 volunteers who are expected to join us for the induction programme on the 20^th and 21^st December 2008 at CEE. We feel that this will be an opportunity for the volunteers to use their own experience, creativity and enthusiasm and contribute towards nation building.
